PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

LVIS Mission Statement:
"The purposes for which the Society is formed are for the maintenance and preservation of historical landmarks and for the maintenance of ponds, parks, greens, and trees in the Village of East Hampton and vicinity, as well as for the charitable and educational improvement and the advancement of the general welfare of the said Village of East Hampton and vicinity."

The original goals and objectives set forth in 1895 by the twenty-one founding members of the LVIS remain valid today and perhaps have acquired even greater significance. As residents of East Hampton face the issues and consequences of the development on the East End of Long Island, the respite provided by our many village greens and our tree-lined streets helps preserve the character and pristine beauty of our village. LVIS members work diligently to sustain this quality of life in East Hampton by maintaining the village greens, preserving the village trees, in particular the elms, and supporting efforts to foster historic preservation.

Much of our funding is generated by donations of gently used merchandise which we sell in our thrift shops Bargain Books and the LVIS Thrift Shop Bargain Box. These funds are supplemented by the money raised at our annual LVIS Fair and additional monetary contributions through the efforts of the Development Committee. The money raised annually allows us to continue our ambitious programs of trees and greens maintenance, college scholarships, and other community projects. Any financial support that you can give us would be used wisely to carry out our mission.
