Landmarks

The Landmarks Committee of LVIS has consistently been involved in maintaining our heritage by supporting historic preservation efforts, including the creation of Village historic districts.

In 1985 LVIS purchased the historic Gardiner Brown House at 95 Main Street, saving it from demolition, and it is now LVIS headquarters.

In the past two years, LVIS was proud to make sizable donations for repairs in the South End Cemetery, restoration of the Dominy Shops, a woodworking and clock shop recently moved to their original location on North Main Street, and to the Brooks-Park Arts and Nature Center in Springs.

The Landmarks Luncheon

Held at the historic Maidstone Club, the LVIS Landmarks Luncheon highlights preservation efforts. Guest speakers entertain guests with presentations on topics that have included Sylvestor Manor, Thomas Moran and Mary Nimmo Moran, the South End Cemetery, the Dominy craftsmen, East Hampton historic districts and houses, the Devon Colony, the Peconic Land Trust, and more. Proceeds from this event fund specific local projects.
